Why is my pipeline full but no deals closing?

Your pipeline looks healthy.

CRM is full. Deals everywhere. Numbers look great on paper.

But nothing is closing.

Welcome to what I call the Pipeline Illusion.

It's one of the most dangerous situations in B2B sales — because it feels like everything is fine right up until the moment it isn't.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻?

The result? A pipeline that looks like R5 million but performs like R500,000.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻:

𝟭. 𝗗𝗼 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆.

Any deal with no activity in 30 days gets flagged. Any deal with no confirmed budget gets questioned. Any deal with a pushed close date gets scrutinised.

𝟮. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮.

A deal only enters your pipeline when budget, authority, need, and timeline are confirmed. Not assumed.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆.

Reps should never fear removing a deal. A smaller, honest pipeline is worth more than a bloated, fictional one.

A pipeline that tells the truth is the most valuable tool in your business.
